6 Style Choices For A More Modern Fence

When it comes to home design and decor it often seems like the sky's the limit. No colour is ever truly off-limits and there are all kinds of products and materials to help you achieve whatever look you crave for your home. These modern trends can also be seen in more and more fences as homeowners look to unify their outdoor and indoor spaces. So what makes a fence “modern” and how do you get one for your own home?

  1. Flip The Fence Boards

One of the easiest ways to modernize the look of your new fence is to turn the fence boards so that they lay horizontally rather than vertically. Work with a professional if you go this route as you will want to ensure that spacing between the boards is sufficient but that the fence isn’t easy to climb.

  1. Use Different Sizes

Another popular trend in contemporary fences is the use of different sized boards and slats. Using wider planks on the bottom of a horizontal fence and then gradually making the boards thinner towards the top creates the look of an “ombre” fence like no other.

  1. Skip The Wood

If you want a contemporary looking fence, you may do well to avoid wood and pick a more unique material. A concrete fence will not only look modern, but it is a long-lasting choice that requires little to no maintenance in the coming years.

  1. Go Industrial

Another big element in modern and contemporary design is the use of industrial materials. If you work with your fencing contractor to create a thoughtful design, you can combine materials like chainlink, wood, concrete, sheet metal and wire to create a fence that is unique, strong, and well equipped for Rover.

  1. A Fence Post Fence

Some homeowners are opting to forgo fencing panels altogether and are using closely spaced fence posts to create a visual and physical barrier. While this concept isn’t the best for small pets and children, it’s definitely an interesting look. If you go this route, we would recommend the use of WoodGuard fence posts as they are coated in a polymer that will keep them looking great for years.

  1. Rock and Roll

If you want to go a more natural route, you can try piling large rocks and stones between wire panels. This basically looks like a large rock wall when it is finished, so it isn’t for everyone, but it may make a nice break or addition to an otherwise standard wood fence.

No matter your personal style and that of your home, there truly is a fence out there for everyone. These days, almost anything is possible and at A & G Fencing we are happy to work with our customers to find unique solutions to their design dreams and dilemmas.
