Tips for Boosting Privacy in Your Yard

During warm summer days, your yard is a private oasis. It’s a place to relax while eating delicious food, it’s the location to play with your children, and it's the spot for hosting good friends with a good-ole-fashioned BBQ. To ensure your yard is always a personal oasis, here are a couple of tips and tricks for boosting its privacy.

Plants, Plants, Plants

When it comes to securing privacy in your yard, nature offers us an excellent tool: the plant. These plants provide year-round screening and their heights are typically not limited by municipal restrictions. Some plants, like the columnar evergreen ‘Italian Cypress’, are a simple solution. They can separate adjoining yards, grow quickly, and block views.

Alternatively, you could try potted plants that grow tall such as the bamboo plant. This look is also effortlessly stylish.

Channel the Sound of Water

Even if you’ve managed to limit the view of your yard, sound can still travel in from the outside. Fountains are a great way to mask this noise. The trickling of water can also muffle the sound of traffic or buzzing AC vents. There’s a whole variety of fountains that can be used, you could even opt for a large fountain capable of masking the sights and the sounds around you.

Consider Arbours and Pergolas

Small areas in your yard can be hidden from sight via arbours and pergolas. These decorative fences add an element of sophistication to your yard while increasing privacy. During our warm summer months, curtains can offer privacy to certain sections of your yard. For example, if you have a gazebo, consider putting up a curtain rail and some beautiful, light, yet water resistant curtains. During these months, curtains can also offer shade from the sun!
